Who it's for
Built for new programmers.
The course is for students, graduates and professionals learning to program. You do not need any programming experience: the Python Institute sets no prerequisite for PCEP, and PCEP is the recommended step before PCAP.

Seven modules: four for PCEP, then three for PCAP, then an exam-readiness review. Weightings are the Python Institute's own.
01Python fundamentals16 hrs
PCEP section 1 (18% of that exam).

02Control flow18 hrs
PCEP section 2 (29%): decisions and loops.

03Data collections18 hrs
PCEP section 3 (25%): lists, tuples, dictionaries and strings.

04Functions and exceptions18 hrs
PCEP section 4 (28%).

- Defining and decomposing functions

05Modules, packages, exceptions and strings16 hrs
PCAP sections 1–3 (12%, 14% and 18% of that exam).

- Unicode, UTF-8, slicing and string methods
You produce: your own Python package.
06Object-oriented programming and more22 hrs
PCAP sections 4 and 5 (34% and 22%).

Capstone
Build a Python application. Structure it like a pro.
Build a complete command-line application as a Python package, with classes, exceptions and file storage, then review it against both exam syllabi.
Every module ends with a live coding lab.

Your credential
Rooman Certificate.
The Rooman Certificate, then the Python Institute's PCEP and PCAP. You earn the Rooman Certificate when you complete the course, and PCEP and PCAP when you pass each Python Institute exam.
PCEP has 30 items in 40 minutes and PCAP 40 items in 65 minutes; both need 70% to pass and are valid for five years. The Python Institute plans new versions of both exams from the third quarter of 2026, and a counsellor will tell you which your batch prepares for.

Which exams does it prepare me for?
The Python Institute's PCEP (Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer, exam PCEP-30-02) and PCAP (Certified Associate Python Programmer, exam PCAP-31-03).
Do I need to take PCEP before PCAP?
The Python Institute recommends it but does not require it. The course prepares you for both, in that order.
How much time does it take?
120 hours of instructor-led training, with live coding labs in every module.
What are the exams like?
PCEP is 30 items in 40 minutes and PCAP is 40 items in 65 minutes, and both need 70% to pass.
How long are the certifications valid?
Five years each, according to the Python Institute.

Rooman's retry-until-pass support: if you do not pass first time, your preparation continues until you sit the exam again and pass it.
