Rooman's Healthcare Data & AI is a 45-hour, 9-week online course for BSc Life Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology and Nursing students. You learn health data standards such as EHR and FHIR, Python for healthcare data, healthcare analytics, privacy rules and clinical research workflows, then analyse a public healthcare dataset in a capstone and earn the Rooman Campus AI Certificate.

The modules move from how health data is recorded and protected to analysing it with Python, and end with a capstone on a public dataset.

02Medical data systems and standards5 hrs

How health data is recorded and exchanged: EHRs, FHIR, HL7, ICD-10 and SNOMED.

  • Electronic health records (EHRs): what they hold and how they are structured
  • FHIR and HL7: how health systems exchange data
  • Coding systems: ICD-10 for diagnoses and SNOMED for clinical terms
  • Reading a sample FHIR record

You produce: an annotated sample FHIR record.

03Python for healthcare data6 hrs

Use Pandas to clean and reshape healthcare data, with its own quirks of codes, dates and gaps.

  • Reshaping patient-level and visit-level data

You produce: a cleaned healthcare dataset ready for analysis.

04AI in clinical diagnostics5 hrs

A survey of where AI is being used in radiology, pathology and other diagnostic areas, and its limits.

Analyse patient groups, outcomes and the use of services with Python.

The privacy rules for patient data: PHI under HIPAA, business associate agreements and India's DPDP Act.

Which AI course should a life-sciences student take?

Start with AI for ALL, then the Sciences Foundation if you are new to Python. Healthcare Data & AI then teaches health data standards, Python analysis, privacy rules and clinical research workflows for healthcare data, clinical research and healthtech careers.

Is this for college students only?

Mostly, yes. Recent graduates and career-switchers are welcome too.

What do I need before I start?

You need to have completed AI for ALL, plus either the Sciences Foundation or an introduction to Python. The Python module focuses on healthcare data, so it helps to know the basics before you start.

Will I learn to diagnose patients with AI?

No. The course is about data, not clinical decisions. One module surveys where AI is being used in radiology, pathology and other diagnostic areas so you understand the field, but your own work is in data analysis, documentation and research workflows.

Is it suitable for BSc Nursing students?

Yes, if you are looking for a non-clinical career. BSc Nursing students who want to move into healthcare data, clinical research or healthtech are part of the audience.

Does it cover HIPAA and India's privacy law?

Yes. One module covers PHI handling and business associate agreement basics under HIPAA, and India's DPDP Act as it applies to healthcare.

How much time does it take?

45 hours over 9 weeks, combining self-paced lessons with one live cohort session each week.

Is it online or classroom?

It is taught online, with self-paced lessons and a weekly live cohort session, so it fits around college or work. Ask a counsellor about classroom batches.

Will I get hands-on with real tools?

Yes. Every tool listed on this page is used hands-on in cohort labs.

What is the capstone?

Take a publicly available healthcare dataset and produce a clean analytical deliverable, with insights relevant to a clinical or operational question.

What can I do after this course?

You can go further with science data in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology or Data Analytics & AI Foundations, or move towards AI engineering with AI Foundation, Tier 1 of Rooman's Build AI track (120 hours).

Is this course AICTE or UGC approved?

It is a skill course from Rooman, not a UGC-approved degree. You receive the Rooman Campus AI Certificate and a completion record.

Will my college recognise this?

Rooman's partner colleges may count it as a skill credit. Check with your college's placement officer.

Does the course include placement support?

Yes: a résumé and LinkedIn workshop, and help with internship matching. It is not one of Rooman's job-guaranteed programmes.

Which certificate will I receive?

The Rooman Campus AI Certificate, with a record of the course you completed.
